Springing

Six months. That’s how long it took for the state of my work here, as of the last post, to change the next significant version number. Spring is coming on now. Let’s review.

Hogwarts Legacy was updated. The update introduced an integrated mod system and ridiculous interior light blooming inside treasure vaults and house interiors. I have not released my updated Hogwarts maps, and I should, especially considering the mod update.

With considerable help from ChatGPT, I made a site-integrated map page to replace, improve, and correct the former maps. After getting over the idea of starting from scratch, I realized ChatGPT could provide modules and integrations that only need to be massaged, or occasionally rebuilt, to work together based on my direction.

Among changes:

  • The highlands map uses the proper minimap source map, as does Hogsmeade.
  • My corrected Hogwarts maps are fully employed.
  • Added every cairn dungeon map using assembled minimap disk base images.
  • Added the sanctuary maps, Catrin Haggarty’s camp, and Horntail Hall.
  • Added many missing markers, including those missed in the first rounds of addition, inserting all the quest markers, and correcting several misplaced items. Note that there are almost no incident or resource markers on the main map, and this can still be done in the future.
  • The map side panel is now dynamic to the maps and loaded markers; all markers and groups can be hidden, marker coallation by group or region can be swapped, and each item can be panned to by clicking its focus icon.
  • Whether or not it needed it, all icons are now in color using game imagery or similar to the original icon cues.

And, in the interim, as I was attempting to wrap my head around all of that, I imported several currently private pages from Ultima IX content to the site.

So, the map I was dreading six months ago is live. Even with the termination of the refresh update to Hogwarts Legacy, I continue to boost certain features, regardless of the perceived lack of need.

Still, it’s my passion of the moment, and I have to see where it plays out.
