How do you find an evil tree?
Unless you have done the QuestTree Gnome Village quest, you have to rely on friends or the random chance of being near enough to a sprouting tree to see its roots. Those who have done the quest can ask the spirit trees about the occurrence of an evil tree. A spirit tree can also teleport you to an evil tree after it has fully matured.

When asking the spirit tree about an evil tree in between each evil tree's existence, it will give an approximation on the time until the tree appears.
Spirit Tree Update Time-to-tree Range
"... for over an hour." 1-2 hours
"... for over half an hour." 30-60 minutes
"... in just under half an hour." 15-30 minutes
"... in just less than 15 minutes." 5-15 minutes
"... strange sapling is about to sprout." 0-4 minutes
"talk about a strange sapling" Sapling is on the ground (provides clue, sapling can be nurtured 1 time a minute for 4 minutes)
"teleport to the evil tree" Can Teleport to Tree
How do trees appear?
An evil tree's life is rather short. The information from a spirit tree puts the sapling's life to about 4 minutes. It appears at a spot and goes through 4 growth spurts prior to emerging as an evil tree. Evil trees are fairly random in timing world to world and the appearance of trees in each world can be any of the 26 spots randomly.

Once you are within a short walk of the tree, a set of roots assault you quickly. This lets you know you are close. When you get to it, if it is still as a sapling, you can start nurturing it for farming experience. No tools are required to nurture it.

When it finally matures, its roots protect it and can stun you or knock you down when you try to chop on the tree. You must cut some roots to get at a tree. This also gives you kindling if you want to burn it too. You should bring your best woodcutting axe but you can get a bronze axe as well as a tinder box from the leprechaun who tends the tree.

With the roots cut away you can damage the tree by cutting and burning it. Inspecting the tree (right-click) lets you see how much health it has left and how much of a reward percentage you have collected helping to defeat it. The tree has 4 stages of health at which you have to start chopping it again; being 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%.

Once it's dead, you can collect your reward from the stump. Look for more about the rewards below. You can also turn in unused kindling to the leprechaun for 25 GP each.
What levels do you need for cutting or burning this tree? How does the experience work?
You only get 2 chances a day to work on an evil tree. After you have had 2 tries, you will not be able to work on a new couple until midnight UTC+0 (aka GMT or Zulu). Here are the levels required for each task and the experience for each unit. Farming experience allots for every level it grows while you tend it. Woodcutting experience occurs on a random hit (there is a small animation of flying wood chips when it happens, only you can see your animation). Firemaking experience is applied once for each of the eight possible sides you light.

What about cutting these roots back? What is this kindling for?
Every time you finish cutting a root from an evil tree, you get 1 bit of evil tree kindling. In order to light any of the 8 sides of a tree you need a portion of kindling and the roots on that side must be cut back. Once a section is lit, it stays lit until the tree dies.

A group of cutters can gang a root to kill it faster and everyone that is cutting on that root when it is removed gets a portion of kindling. Your reward increases faster if you burn the tree and the more you burn it the faster it goes.

Kindling can be banked instead of turned in to the leprechaun. By keeping extra kindling in the bank, there can always be eight pieces to take to the next new tree. With kindling at the start, you can burn an entire side of a tree when the root is cut back on that side. This allows you to start making more reward sooner both in burning as much as possible, as soon as possible, and getting to work on the body of the tree sooner.
How do the rewards work?
You develop a certain amount of reward by helping to destroy a tree. Every bit of wood you cut from the body of a tree adds to your reward percentage. Every fire you have going, over the time the fire is burning, also adds to the reward. The object is to get 100% of your reward before the tree expires.

The items of that reward are left in the stump after you kill it. If you forget to pick up a reward from a tree, you can collect it from the leprechaun at another evil tree.

Rewards include 4-358 bank notes for logs (depending on type) of the type of tree you did (elders produce teak, mahogany, yew or magic log notes), 80-8200 GP, and items including any tree seed, treasure trail clues, and key halves.

The other reward is magic log banking/tree life extension. For a period of time that the leprechaun mentions, when cutting wood, if your inventory is full, all wood you cut will go straight to your bank. Also, a tree you are cutting in that time will be less likely to be felled or finished. This life extension only applies to regular, oak, willow, maple, yew or magic trees and does not apply to any farm plot grown trees.

Clue: It can be found Near a dungeon on an tropical island (Also Brimhaven Slayer)
It is in a land where monkeys rule
Very near the unstable skeleton dungeon on Ape Atoll. Bring anti-poison for hostile animal bites. Dearo in the Gnome Stronghold can help you get here during and after QuestMonkey Madness and you can get here using MagicAtoll Teleport after saving Awowogei in QuestRecipe for Disaster.
Clue: It can be found on the island known as Karamja (Also Shilo Nature Altar)
It can be found Near a dungeon on an tropical island (Also Ape Atoll)
Near the metal dragon Brimhaven slayer dungeon and tribal natives. There is a dock to the north and a bit east where you can travel from Ardougne or by charter. The BJR Fisher King fairy ring and whistle also place you to the north of here. Also you can run here from Glory Karamja teleport in the east on Musa Point and Fairy ring CKR far in the south near Graak hunting lands and also in that area is the SummoningSpirit Graak teleport.
Clue: Close to a collection of Yew trees (Also Lumbridge Swamp Wall)
It can be found close to the village you call "Seers" (Also Seer's Village)
Lots of help from those always chopping yews here. Very near approaches include the Magic Camelot/Seer's teleport, the charter boat on Arhien's dock, Magic Lunar Catherby teleport, and fairy ring BLR by the Legends guild entrance.
Clue: Close to a place you call Draynor (Also Draynor Willows)
On the edge of the haunted region surrounding Draynor Manor, this spot seems a likely place for an evil infestation. North of the Glory Draynor teleport, west by northwest of the Explorer Ring Cabbage-port. Also farther but still reachable from MagicLumbridge castle and its teleports as well as fairy ring DIS at the Wizard Tower in the south.
Clue: Close to a large collection of Willow trees (Also Gnome Stronghold and Seer's Village)
Close to a place you call Draynor (Also Draynor Mansion)
Another heavily forested area, especially for lower levels and hyper-woodcutters is this spot south of the Draynor bank. Get here with a Glory Draynor teleport and head south, or fairy ring DIS at the Wizard Tower over the south bridge. Not too far from the Explorer Ring Cabbage-port heading southwest. There is also running from MagicLumbridge castle teleports.
Clue: It can be found close to a mine on the outskirts of a city (Also Legends Mine)
Stars fall here and trees sprout here too. With a MagicFalador teleport and hopping the west wall you can reach here. Also north of a Skills Crafting guild teleport thru the fence.
Clue: It can be found close to rare trees with Ogres near by (Also Oo'glug Eucalyptus)
This area south of Castle Wars is mainly ogre territory given its nearness to Jiggig and the Feldip Hills. A Duel CW teleport will get you here though the nearby fairy ring BKP puts you a lot closer.
Clue: Close to a large collection of Willow trees (Also Draynor Willows and Seer's Village)
Even in the fenced in Stronghold of the Tree Gnomes, an evil tree can flourish. The best ways to get here other than very slowly by foot include the spirit tree transport and a gnome glider to the top of the Grand tree, both to the northeast of this spot. Using a Games Barbarian Outpost teleport and scrambling up the agility shortcut even further northeast is possible but is quite a run.
Clue: It can be found on the island known as Karamja (Also Brimhaven Slayer)
The deep reaches of the Kharazi Jungle, making up the whole of the southern part of Karamja, make for an excellent and private place for an evil tree to stake claim. Hard to reach, this area has no teleports or docks such that it might be best to wait for the spirit tree teleport to work. If you are driven to try, bring a machete with your axe for the brush and use fairy ring CKR or Graak teleport and head south then east; or use the Karamja 3 gloves teleport, leave the city and head south into the jungle.
Clue: It can be found close to a town you call Yanille (Also Ogres-Yanille West)
Just north and west of the Yanille east gate is where this tree can be found. Fairy ring CLS is nearby on the peninsula to the southeast. Also a MagicWatchtower teleport or a Yanille based MagicPOH teleport will place you west of here. MagicLunar Khazard teleports are to the north of this spot.
Clue: Close to the home of "Legends" (Also Sorcerer's Tower)
It can be found close to a mine on the outskirts of a city (Also Falador West)
There are yew trees south of the legends guild, east of the Legends-Grizzly mine ... and occasionally an evil tree too. Fairy ring BLR is just north and east of here. MagicAn Ardougne teleport is close but you'll have to exit the east gate of the city and run northeast to the mine and the tree.
Clue: It can be found in the lands inhabited by elves (Also Tyras Catapult)
The magic trees near Lletya are a safe distance from the poison waste to the south, but an evil tree doesn't mind being so close. The best way to arrive here is using the Lletya teleport crystal charged by Eluned. Exit the elf city through the barrier tree and run south past the magic trees.
Clue: Close to a collection of Yew trees (Also Catherby Yews)
It can be found near the town Lumbridge
The evil tree sprouting near Lumbridge appears just north of the swamp barrier wall southwest of the yew trees. MagicLumbridge teleport (or basic Home teleport) then run west through to guard tower doors to the spot or Glory Draynor teleport and head east around the south of the jail.
Clue: To the south of a Gnome settlement (Also Ogres-Yanille West)
The "Making History" quest outpost hosts evil trees to it's east, south of the Gnome Stronghold. The stronghold is the best way to approach this site, using the spirit tree. It's a long distance to run from the fishing guild or even MagicArdougne teleport.
Clue: It can be found north as the crow flies from Ardougne Market (Also Range Guild)
The protected McGruber's wood is an ideal evil tree refuge. Fairy ring ALS is right inside the grounds and convenient. A Combat Range guild teleport or MagicSeers/Camelot teleport can also put you in range to the south or east respectively.
Clue: Close to a runecrafting altar (Also Shilo Nature Altar)
The monks in the Edgeville monastery never succeeded in blessing away the evil tree south of their abbey, near the body altar. Body altar tabs are the best approach for this tree. Even so, the Glory Edgeville teleport or the Skull staff teleport are both relatively close.
Clue: It can be found close to a town you call Yanille (Also Khazard-Yanille East)
To the south of a Gnome settlement (Also Making History Outpost)
Yanille's west gate bars entrance by rogue ogres, but you might need to pass it to defeat an evil tree that grows out there. A Yanille house is useful to get here via MagicPOH teleport or there is the CIQ fairy ring to the north. Other options include the MagicWatchtower teleport and Yanille underwall shortcut, the Duel Castle Wars teleport to the west and even coming south from the tree gnome village after using the spirit tree and following Elkoy.
Clue: It can be found close to rare trees with Ogres near by (Also Feldip CW)
You might think ogress warriors would take care of an evil tree west of their city, Oo'glug, but they'd actually rather beat on those that arrive to cut it down. Most approaches here are by foot from the north but the AKS fairy ring on the north edge of the jungle hunting area is the nearest transport.
Clue: It can be found north as the crow flies from Ardougne Market (Also McGrubor's Wood)
The ranging guild archers often need help from axe wielding woodcutters for evil trees southwest of the guild wall, arrows don't cut much wood you see. The Combat Range guild teleport is the best transport here. Even so, the Skills Fishing guild or the MagicSeers/Camelot teleport or ALS fairy ring in McGruber's wood or even MagicArdougne teleport are all options.
Clue: It can be found north as the crow flies from Seers Village
Evil trees find their way into Fremennik lore, after all, they appear just southeast of the Rellekka lands. The Rellekka MagicPOH teleport or the Lyre teleport drop u just to the west here. A Slayer Rellekka slay cave teleport or the nearby AJR fairy ring are a bit further away to the east. Even more fairy rings are near, DKS in the north or DJR over the Rellekka log shortcut to the south.
Clue: Close to a large collection of Willow trees (Also Gnome Stronghold and Draynor Willows)
It can be found close to the village you call "Seers" (Also Catherby Yews)
The willow bound shore of the lake north of Seer's Village can harbor an evil tree (watch out maple harvesters). The MagicSeers teleport (using the Seers headband) puts you very close here. Even a MagicCamelot teleport is not to far away. Other alternates are the Combat Range teleport and the ALS McGruber wood fairy ring west or the DJR Sinclair fairy ring away to the north.
Clue: Close to a runecrafting altar (Also Monastery near Body Altar)
It can be found on the island known as Karamja (Also Brimhaven Slayer)
Evil trees have been known to sprout just north of the Shilo Wall adjacent to the gem mine, right in a nature rune runner's way. The Nature tabs from GOP to the east, or the fairy ring CKR and SummoningSpirit Graak teleports to the west are each viable ways to get here.
Clue: Close to the home of "Legends" (Also Legends Mine)
Thormac's tower's, with the four magic trees in its yard, will host an evil tree in its eastern glade (shouting distance from Catherby yews). Several ways to get here are about the same range away: Legends BLR fairy ring to the south MagicLunar Catherby teleport to east Combat Range guild teleport to west and MagicSeers/Camelot Teleport to north.
Clue: Outside the city you call Varrock (Also Varrock Palace North)
Southeast of the earth altar and northwest of the Digsite, the Soul's Bane rift lies near a ripe spot for evil trees. The Varrock balloon is actually the best transport to get here. Even so, the Digsite teleport is not to much further away to the south. MagicVarrock teleport, Duel FOG teleport and Canifis fairy ring CKS and Paterdomus agility shortcut are all rather far away.
Clue: It can be found in the lands inhabited by elves (Also Lletya Mage Trees)
This evil tree location is very near the clearing where the Tyra's camp catapult is set up. Of the two ways to get here, Charter to Tyras camp is likely the best. Lletya crystal teleport is quite a ways away through woods and traps.
Clue: Outside the city you call Varrock (Also Soul's Bane Rift)
To the north of the Varrock Palace wall, an evil tree can grow very close to the yews which are inside the walled grounds. Duel FOG teleport is actually rather close to the northeast here. Alternate routes include MagicVarrock square teleport heading north, MagicVarrock GE teleport through the GE agility shortcut and east or even running east from DKR fairy ring or Glory Edgeville.
