Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to do?

You are called out by one Lord British to take a quest of enlightenment, the end-all be-all of which is that you become the Avatar – the embodiment and example of the eight virtues.

What does this mean? Given that it is the goal of the game its nature is not that important, but it may help your reaching that goal to know...

What do I start with?

You are just an individual with overly much curiosity in the beginning (as are many soon to find a world of trouble).

First, information is provided. One thing is a book containing a rudimentary history, geography, and economy as well as wildlife (wait until you get a load of how wild this life is), survival and thaumaturgy. The next is another tome of in-depth spell-casting devices and methods. These books are actual books recieved with the original package of the game. Later CD and downloadable releases have them in text and help file versions.

Next is the role-cast. You are asked a curious set of questions that effect how your character starts. The answers base out your strengths, your starting position and effect whom may help you in your coming tasks.

Finally you are tossed into the world with a few basic necessities (a purse of the local coin, some bit of food and other necessary equipment) to find your way to the goal.

How do I get there?

You find out along the way. One or more individuals throughout the world know most of the information necessary for you to solve this game. You find people, ask them the right questions, and they mention the information you need to take the next step. This is oft in the form of the next person you must see. Sooner or later though it gets down to a location you must visit or an area where you must look for quest items.

Your character must also be in a certain condition to finish the game. Without conscious effort on your part, this is being achieved as you play. Soon enough though, your efforts have to get more specific. People along the way will also have information on these requirements and there are other means to point you true to the path.
