This iteration of my web presence was originally a place to launch web services or cloud-based resources. The original site that ran here was the first actual host with access to the scripting and site layers to run persistent or at least cron-job-driven apps.
One of the main reasons was to automate progress records from my various Runescape play instances. Therefore, I copied over the old main page from the Comcast site. I continued to work on various scripts and programs in the deeper layers of the site. Once the automatic statistics retrieval was available, I no longer had to maintain a manual, spotty record additions to the Excel sheet I began with. I made a specialized public signature with game stats that were updated regularly. I started recording various notes for quests and game activities when I would instead not use sites such as Salmoneus’, RuneHQ, or TipIt.
The notes became the basis of the first attempt at my Runescape site. This was handcrafted HTML like the Ultima stones that preceded it. Then, I began to hear about content management systems and cut my teeth with a Joomla site. The data for that site is still in my database and backups. However, an update to the Joomla root code made my site defunct. Remapping the data into a new instance requires premium service(s). I wasn’t willing to engage these against the loss.
Before RS3 went live, I began a Google Maps Runescape map project. RS3’s new map was good but less than I had conceived. So, I continued development until specific other priorities with life and work overrode this effort long enough to halt most production on the map and other personal sites. Soon after this point, the RSWiki was instanced, and I made a few contributions over time to the pages I noticed needed expansion.
With Runescape burning me, I dropped all those projects. However, since all that time has been freed up, I’m trying a few new things. I created a WordPress blog site and a MediaWiki library. I continue to work on my theme skills and have integrated WordPress into the main body of the site.
The MediaWiki stub was initially integrated by my site’s hosting. After developing it for some time and being unable to manipulate it as I desired, an update broke my instance. I have created an article section under WordPress to take over. I have yet to recover some of the articles I was writing there.
