I am working on re-editing this. It was in a hideous state because of code hosted elsewhere and even now it’s not much better. Occasionally, any MIDI files I’d crafted or found were dropped in a location here along with an internal player. I’ll be trying to re-institute that.
Long ago you could drop MIDI (*.mid) files into classic HTML code and play them without an issue. This is not the case today. Although HTML5 does include an <audio>
tag, I have never been able to use it and be certain it will play regardless of where it is opened. I may not have been sure of the long deprecated bgsound tag either but it seemed to work in wide use.
Even though many MIDI files, especially those found randomly in the wild, are nothing to write home about. But they are still small and can be interesting. The MIDI standard is capable of complex reproduction of audio events on most equipment with simple audio devices.
So I’m looking into some simple and some more complex scripts to see if this project is not as dead as it seemed. Maybe this Archaic Item will eventually get its own Project.
