Music has been a significant part of my life in ways that are impossible to count by now. I have used my voice as an instrument of expression ever since I could. I’ve played guitar at an accomplished amateur level since my teens though I’ve not practiced to a higher level. As far back as learning how my Commodore 64’s SID chip synthesized sound, I have also seen making music as one of the multitude of things I can use a computer for.
I learned to use Cakewalk in the 1990s to create MIDI sequence files. They were not regular in quality and were often driven by varied interests such that there was no consistent theme to link them. Beyond this, I was at least proud enough of the effort to place the files in directories online for others to download them as they wished. I was also using the inherent ability of web browsers of the time to play these tracks using the software synths they had access to. Over time, the standards of HTML and browser structure changed and this effort was lost.
It was not gone from my thoughts, however. After creating this new site and picking up a few new code skills and familiarity with these new options, the possibility of hosting these files reared its head once again.
So now here is not only a place to download my old MIDI files but also a place to listen to them using an online synth. It is not ideal, and often too loud because I did not plan it properly. It exists and I hope someone may get something from it.
