Tips, Cheats & Loopholes
The game has
many ways of getting ahead, besides and around the legal or accepted that is.
- To Start Developer's Mode Game
- When starting the game from DOS type
-
- C:\ULTIMA7>ULTIMA7 ABCD<ALT+255><Enter>
-
- There
is a space character in between the ULTIMA7 and the ABCD[ALT+255]
option. In case you haven't seen that ALT notation before, <ALT+255> is an
extended character generated by holding down the ALT key, entering 2-5-5 on the numeric keypad and
then releasing the ALT key. Once the game loads you will now have access to a
development menu (cheat menu) as well as several other functions.
- Hitting F1 provides a help menu.
- The F2 key will
start the main cheat menu.
- F3 will bring up a map so that you can select a map chunk to
teleport to.
- F4 acts as a single step toggle switch, not particularly useful, but slows
down some steps.
F5 will cast a spell based on the spell number.
I never really used this effectively, but F6 sets the barge hack cheat.
F7 is a trace toggle switch.
F8 reads any sign, tomb, plaque, book or scroll one at a time or in a set.
F9 produces an object report of an item you click on.
I'm still researching the path find test set by F10.
ALT+1 plays any sounds.
I've not been able to get any information out of ALT+2 frame counter.
- ALT+3 is a sprite viewer.
- ALT+4
makes characters drop their inventory.
- There is also the SPAM S, PS options and the option to use the executable form of
the program U7.EXE. The Following are a few versions I've seen.
-
- C:\ULTIMA7>ULTIMA7 ABCD<ALT+255>
SPAM S
- C:\ULTIMA7>U7 ABCD<ALT+255> SPAM S
- C:\ULTIMA7>ULTIMA7 <ALT+255>

- Cheat room via Trinsic
- In Trinsic, there is a teleport egg on the roof of Christopher's smithy
behind the north side of the chimney. Build a set of stairs so that you can get on the roof.
This is easiest done with the crates and a few other items from the smithy.
Walk behind
the chimney. Walking the hall you find yourself in, you will first come to a
room to fully equip a party of eight. There are eight suits of magic armor,
two Death Scythes, a Juggernaut Hammer, a Hawk, two Magic Axes, lots of magic rings, a
full spell book with every spell bound to it, 1000 gold, 100 lock-picks, 100 of
each of the spell regents, Rudyom's wand, the three prisms, and a Hoe of
Destruction.
-
- Winning at Roulette
- This is a rather basic save and restore tool (time-consuming), I prefer
the rat race trick. To have an unlimited supply of gold coins (as many as you can carry) go to
Buccaneer's Den and
place 100 (or whatever you've got) gold coins on one of the colors for the roulette
wheel. Save your game then spin the wheel. If you win, collect your winnings and save.
If
you lose, restore. Continue until you have as much gold as you want.
-
- Experience Raising on Buccaneer's Den
- This bug is just a bit faster and less damaging than fighting to gain
experience. Each completed loop gets you 10 more points of experience. Speak
to Blacktooth and then, talk to Mole. Return to Blacktooth and mention "Mole says..."
Repeat this to get 10 points more, over and over.
-
- Consequence of Cheating Room
- Many have noted the curious little bits of code in the game's usecode, a
gibberish word engine, an odd sequence with British sentencing the player to
death. The room who's eggs trigger this code is part of the Serpent's Spine
mountains but not connected to the dungeon Despise. Lying under a northward
finger of the Spine, west of Despise's entrance, south of the river and east
and north of Selwyn's Tower, the only way in is cheat teleport or hack move
the mountain and flight. The center of the room is about (207, 407, 00) hex
coords. But what ensues is rather shocking yet comical. A music cue brings
up "Wilderness," duly creepy. Traps in the four corners of the
room shower you with electric bolts. A third egg summons a British golem.
Whether you survive the trap and British's verbal abuse and attack,
Armageddon is cast. But there are some things throughout the land to communicate
with, though you won't get much out of them. Everything talks in a scrambled
verse.
