Food and Ale
Packs of 10 rations are found in the grocery stores with a ceiling price of 5 pence per pack. Grocers can be talked down to 1p per. If they ask for 4-5 pence per ten you're better option is the castle's magic pools. See Atlas:Castle about this. Ale is always a pence per serving, but the gossip is the best reason for being in the pub.
Weapons N Stuff
Weapons increase in potency with the higher letter designation. But not all items in the arms list are average weapons. Most missile weapons seem to carry a greater deal of inaccuracy (less likely for a damaging hit each attack). Shops sell the first ten types (up to and including k. - staves). The odd numbered ones are sold at some cities, the even ones are at the others. The high order weapons can be stolen from shops or castles, gifts from a castle's magic pools or won by happy chance from the Pillars of the Argonauts. G & H only found in shops after 2000 moves. I, J & K only become available after 3000 moves. I've not been able to determine how or how much the magic items affect your magic skills. They do not directly affect your attributes but may still affect your casting effectiveness.

Armours
Armour can be destroyed as it is being used. Although this never happened to me, both the game executable and the documentation hint at this likelihood. The more expensive it is, the better its quality. E or F is required for space travel. All shops will sell an entire line of all five types. E & F only become available after 3000 moves.

Transportation
The most important attributes of transports are giving you access to the seas or faster speed than enemies. Some have specific uses or even weapons. E & F only become available after 3000 moves.

Time Machine Keys
These items are not important in any general sense except one, all of them are all needed to operate the time machine. They are quest items given by certain kings as payment for services the player performs.
